WHY WE EXIST
For many of us who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, sport hasn’t always felt like a place where we could fully be ourselves. Bad experiences with judgment and harassment, gendered language and spaces, locker-room culture, discomfort with our bodies, and a lack of role models who reflect us have either stopped us from playing or stopped us from ever getting to experience sport in the first place.
That matters.
When you’re kept out of sport, you’re not just missing a game. You’re missing the opportunity to build a relationship with your body, learn how to trust yourself, work alongside teammates, push through challenges, learn through mistakes, and discover what you’re capable of. You’re missing connection, confidence, joy, and the chance to find community. We believe everyone deserves the chance to experience these things.
In a Queer Dimes space, you can show up as you are, make mistakes, learn, and experience the power of play.
The court is just the start.
OUR STORY
Queer Dimes started with a simple idea: what if the 2SLGBTQIA+ community had a place to play basketball where they could truly be themselves? What if a space existed where basketball didn’t feel intimidating, and where everyone on the court was cheering each other on?
The idea was inspired from seeing the opposite.
At community gyms and street courts, the strongest voices and bodies usually took over. Players would dominate the court, exclude others from the game, and throw around language that made the space feel anything but welcoming or safe.
For our founder, it was hard to imagine any members of the queer community walking onto those courts and feeling like they belonged.
Basketball is not a selfish game. It's a team game that is won together.
It's about passing, trusting your teammates, making room for each other, looking for and celebrating the assist, and getting better together.
Queer Dimes was founded so that our community could experience a different kind of basketball court, dreamed up and created just for them.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
SPORT IS FOR EVERYONE
Everyone deserves the chance to experience what sport can offer.

WE PLAY TOGETHER
Basketball is a team game. We pass, make room and encourage each other.

THERE’S ROOM TO LEARN
You don't have to be good to belong. You just have to show up.

COMMUNITY IS THE POINT
Basketball brings us together. What we build with each other is what makes it matter.

WHERE WE'RE GOING
We want to build more opportunities for our community to play, connect, and thrive through sport.
That means expanding our programming, creating more resources, and building a bigger team behind the scenes.
As we grow, we want more of what we build to flow back into our community: supporting people, ideas, and opportunities that help others find connection, confidence, and joy.
